PKS Raises Concerns Over Weak Oversight of High-Rise Buildings in Jakarta
PKS has raised concerns over weak oversight of high-rise building safety in Jakarta. Suhud Alynudin, Chairman of PKS Jakarta’s Regional Leadership Council, said the issue must be taken seriously by the Jakarta Provincial Government as it directly relates to public safety. “The recent fire incident demonstrates how weak the oversight of high-rise building safety is here,” Suhud said in an exclusive interview with Kompas.com on Monday, 1 June 2026. According to Suhud, building safety is one of the issues PKS consistently raises while fulfilling its oversight role over local government. In addition to building oversight, PKS has also highlighted other Jakarta issues, such as flood management, which requires ongoing attention. Suhud stressed that despite many Jakarta Provincial Government programmes aligning with PKS’s expectations, the party does not cease to offer criticism. He noted that PKS continues to perform checks and balances on the executive by addressing issues deemed in need of correction. The safety of building occupants and users must be the top priority. Therefore, the government is urged to ensure all high-rise buildings meet applicable safety standards. PKS’s stance towards the Jakarta Provincial Government remains proportionate. Programmes that benefit the public will be supported, while policies or issues requiring improvement will continue to be critiqued.
