Member of Commission II and PKS Election Body Chairman Mardani Ali Sera has pushed for the prompt discussion of the Election Bill (RUU Pemilu). He requested that the RUU Pemilu be discussed transparently.

“We push for it to be discussed together as soon as possible. Rules for public interest are best discussed transparently from the start,” Mardani said when contacted on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Mardani highlighted the need for fair elections to create good democracy in Indonesia. PKS, according to Mardani, has prepared materials for discussion to ensure fair and clean elections in the future.

“One of the principles of statehood is equality of rights and positions in governance. So that there are fair and equal elections. Good competition is good for democracy. So that checks and balances are strong and public voices continue to be raised,” he stated.

Furthermore, Mardani urged that there should not be many changes in the RUU Pemilu later.

“The main point is not to make many changes from the previous election to ensure continuity,” he added.

House of Representatives Insists It Will Not Discuss Election Bill Secretly

House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has denied rumours that the House is discussing revisions to the Election Law secretly or behind closed doors. Puan said communications are conducted both formally and informally.

“Regarding the RUU Pemilu, there is indeed a time limit, and we continue to carry out political communications in political parties, and that is not done secretly,” Puan said during a press conference at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4).

Puan said the House continues to communicate formally and informally.

“What is called communication can be done formally and informally, but political communication is always still carried out,” she said.

The PDIP DPP Chairman ensured that the upcoming elections will run honestly and fairly. Puan hopes that no one will be disadvantaged by the revision of the Election Law to be discussed.

“The main spirit is so that the elections can run honestly and fairly, then proceed well, the democratic spirit remains, without harming the nation and state,” she said.
