PKS President Attends NU Congress in Jombang: NU Kiai Provide Outstanding Example

Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) President Almuzzammil Yusuf (AMY) attended the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java, on Thursday (27/8/2026).

The 35th NU Congress is the organisation’s highest deliberative forum and runs until 31 August 2026. This year’s congress carries the theme “Upholding Dignity, Enriching Service for the Nation’s Welfare.”

AMY said the NU Congress holds significant meaning for the journey of the Muslim community and the Indonesian nation. According to him, NU has a long history of safeguarding religious life as well as the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

“NU was not born in a vacuum. There is a long history of struggle by the ulama and kiai in building the community while also protecting the nation,” said AMY.

AMY specifically recalled the services of Hadratussyaikh KH Hasyim Asy’ari, one of the great ulama who founded NU and was also an important figure in Indonesia’s struggle for independence.

“KH Hasyim Asy’ari left behind an example showing that love of religion and love of the homeland can go hand in hand. He and the NU kiai demonstrated that pesantren are not only places for seeking knowledge, but also places for instilling the spirit of struggle and service to the nation,” said AMY.
