PKS: Faster Discussion of Election Law Revision is Better
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is pushing for the discussion of the Election Law Bill (RUU Pemilu) to be carried out immediately. “The faster it is discussed, the better,” said PKS Secretary General Muhammad Kholid on Monday (18/5/2026).
In addition to the factor of speed, PKS also emphasised the importance of wider public involvement in drafting the regulation. PKS believes that the election law should not only accommodate the interests of elites or political parties alone. Kholid urged that the stakeholders involved in the discussion of the Election Law Bill be increased.
He expressed hope that academics, experts, and community figures would contribute their input to the Bill. According to him, meaningful public participation will result in a legal product that is far higher in quality and fair to all parties.
Previously, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that communication between political parties is ongoing to initiate the discussion of the Election Law revision. “Regarding previous legislative sessions related to the Election Law Bill, all parties have conducted discussions, as I mentioned, both informally and formally with the chairpersons and all colleagues, to facilitate talks regarding this matter,” said Puan at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
