PKS Faction in DKI DPRD Proposes Blocking NIK of Ex-Husbands Who Fail to Provide for Children and Former Wives
JAKARTA - The PKS faction in the DKI Jakarta DPRD is pressing the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to examine the implementation of sanctions against former husbands who fail to provide for their children and wives following divorce.
This was stated by PKS faction member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Muhammad Thamrin, during the Plenary Session on the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) concerning the Implementation of Women’s Protection, on Monday (11/5/2026).
PKS assesses that protection for women should not merely address physical violence but must also cover economic protection aspects within the family.
“The government needs to examine the possibility of policies imposing sanctions on husbands who do not comply with court decisions post-divorce, particularly regarding maintenance and neglect of wives and children,” Thamrin said in the DPRD DKI Jakarta Plenary Meeting Room on Monday.
According to him, the sanctions imposed do not always have to be in the form of imprisonment but could take the form of administrative population sanctions that have a deterrent effect.
“For example, administrative sanctions by deactivating the NIK or restricting certain administrative services,” he stated.
Furthermore, PKS believes that this regulatory breakthrough can have a positive impact on improving family law in Indonesia.
This regulation is also said to be able to serve as a reference for the Law on Strengthening Women’s Protection in Indonesia.
“If implemented properly, this policy can become a national reference for strengthening women’s and family protection,” Thamrin said.
“Chapter IX of this Raperda only regulates awards without strengthening administrative sanctions for parties negligent in protecting women,” he added.
He also proposed the creation of a digital-based women’s protection dashboard integrated across regional government organisations.
“So that the government can monitor vulnerable areas for violence, the speed of handling victims, as well as the effectiveness of measurable and sustainable services,” he explained.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that he would take a more cautious approach and choose to retain the initial draft focused on providing appreciation, rather than punitive sanctions.
“Regarding the additional recommendation for regulating sanctions, in principle, this Raperda is prepared with a positive approach through regulations on awards,” Pramono said.
“So that public participation is not perceived negatively as a punitive obligation,” he concluded.
