Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has allocated a budget of Rp22.6 billion in 2026 to support the improvement of housing quality and the arrangement of settlement areas in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra Province.

Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, stated that this budget support is expected to accelerate the enhancement of settlement environment quality while encouraging community participation.

“This budget support is expected to accelerate the improvement of settlement environment quality and enhance community welfare. We also encourage the growth of awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness and strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation, especially for communities in Samosir Regency,” said Ara in her statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

The budget consists of Rp11.5 billion for slum area arrangements at 25 locations and Rp11.1 billion for the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme for 556 low-income household (MBR) housing units in Samosir Regency.

In addition to improving community housing conditions, this programme is expected to encourage collaboration between the central government, local government, and the community in realising more orderly and sustainable settlement areas.

With this budget allocation, the government is optimistic that housing and settlement area development in Samosir Regency can continue and provide tangible benefits to the community.

For information, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has allocated 19,668 Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) units for the North Sumatra region (Sumut).

The programme is part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of low-income household (MBR) homes to make them more livable, healthy, and safe.

Nationally, the BSPS programme is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priorities with a target of 400,000 units across Indonesia, as a step to accelerate the handling of Unfit for Habitation Houses (RTLH), while also improving community welfare.
