PKK Jayawijaya Seeks to Reactivate Bolakme Community Market

The Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK) of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Highlands, is working to reactivate the community market in Bolakme District to boost the local economy. TP PKK Jayawijaya Chairperson Idawati Waromi Murib stated that the market has been inactive for a long time, making its reopening a priority. ‘We from TP PKK, in cooperation with the Jayawijaya Regency Government through the relevant technical agencies, are striving to get the community market in Bolakme District operating again so that the local economy can grow here,’ she said. She explained that currently, the community’s agricultural produce from Bolakme District is transported to Wamena city for sale at various markets. ‘Going forward, in coordination with the technical agencies and PKK administrators at the district and village levels, the community market in Bolakme District must be operated so that residents do not need to bring their produce to the city,’ she added. She noted that transporting produce to the city requires using public transport, which costs money. ‘It is unfortunate if people have to bring their produce to the city using public transport; consider how much profit they can actually make from their harvest. Therefore, in the future, a market must exist in Bolakme so that people can earn money locally without having to go to the city,’ she said. She added that the economy of communities in districts and villages must be supported by the local government so that economic improvement can move at the grassroots level. ‘We also want the community’s economy to circulate within the districts and villages so that their welfare is realised. Money must circulate in the villages and districts so that the economy in this region develops in a balanced manner,’ she concluded.
