PKK Coordinating Team Calls for Vigilance Against Violence from Physical Spaces to Social Media
The Chair of the Family Empowerment and Welfare Coordinating Team (TP PKK), Tri Tito Karnavian, emphasised the importance of creating a sense of safety for women in all spaces by opposing all forms of harassment.
Tri stated that violence today not only occurs in physical spaces but also in digital realms such as social media. Violence is not always physical but can also take the form of verbal abuse.
“Things like that happen a lot around us, not only within households but also outside in public facilities, schools, and even in trusted places like religious activities and so on,” she said during her speech at the Talkshow Berani Bicara: Opposing Verbal and Physical Harassment Against Women in All Spaces, in front of the Deutsche Bank Building, Menteng, Jakarta, on Sunday (26/4).
Tri explained that violence continues to occur repeatedly and persistently. In her view, this situation indicates that there are still issues that need to be addressed.
Women, she said, also need to voice their courage more loudly and clearly, not only in events like talkshows but also in the household environment.
She gave an example that, as the first educator in the family, mothers need to educate their sons to respect women. “Boys must also be educated firmly to respect women. They must receive education from an early age that they should respect each other,” she stated.
