PKK Chairperson Invites Students to Love Indonesia Through Marine Tourism Potential
The chairwoman of the Family Welfare Empowerment Movement (TP PKK), Tri Tito Karnavian, has invited students in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua, to cultivate a love for the homeland through character education while also getting to know the maritime potential of their region.
Tri said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday that Biak possesses underwater riches that are a source of pride for Indonesia, including World War II aircraft wrecks lying on the seabed.
This potential, she said, needs to be introduced to the younger generation so that they grow to love their region even more. Moreover, this potential is not found in other parts of Indonesia.
“So be proud that there is not just one, but two World War II aircraft underwater that serve as tourist attractions,” Tri said while attending the Healthy and Great Community Gymnastics event and the Socialisation of National Insight and Love for the Homeland at Cenderawasih Field, Biak Numfor Regency.
She revealed that TP PKK plans to collaborate with dive centres in Biak to introduce the sport of diving to students through a diving familiarisation programme.
According to her, the activity can serve as a means for the younger generation to get to know and protect the marine wealth of their region.
In addition, Tri explained that character education is one of TP PKK’s priority programmes, including through instilling the values of love for the homeland in the lead-up to the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
She also invited the entire community to support government programmes in the field of education so that all Indonesian children obtain equal learning opportunities.
According to her, the government’s commitment to expanding access to education is a manifestation of the state’s presence for the community.
On the occasion, Tri expressed appreciation to the Biak Numfor Regency Government for its support of various government programmes, including the implementation of Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools).
She also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from the people of Biak Numfor towards the TP PKK activities.
Tri expressed hope that the series of activities would not only serve as a gathering and joint exercise event, but would also strengthen the community’s national spirit in welcoming the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
“Let us together begin today with our spirit and joy in celebrating the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, and today we are happy and healthy together,” she said.
