PKB's Strategy for 2029: Moving Beyond Survival Mode, Remaining Realistic

Jakarta, Kompas.com – The National Awakening Party (PKB) has affirmed that in the 2029 General Election, it will no longer merely be a party focused on survival, but is prepared to take on a larger role.

Deputy Chairman of the PKB Central Executive Board for Ideology, Cadre Development, and Organisational Structuring, Hanif Dhakiri, stated that his party is targeting Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, to occupy the position of president or vice president.

“We as a party will not just be about survival, but moving forward, we can continue to grow larger, continue to achieve the major targets that are our goals, including making Gus Muhaimin president or vice president in the 2029 election,” said Hanif, during his speech at the Halal Bihalal and Cadre Appreciation event at the PKB Central Executive Board office, Jakarta, Friday (10/4/2026).

Hanif stressed the importance of ensuring that the cadre development process runs optimally to achieve that target.

In such a situation, according to him, PKB must rely on the quality and superiority of its cadres.

“PKB must ensure that our cadres everywhere are superior, competent, and have a clear commitment to the people,” said Hanif.

He assessed that in the future, political contests will no longer be determined solely by popularity or logistical strength.

“Moving forward, I see that political contests are not just about popularity, not just about logistics, but also about who is most ready to lead,” he added.

Hanif further noted that improving cadre quality presents an opportunity for PKB to prepare leaders who are truly ready to compete in national contests.
