PKB Vows Strict Sanctions for Cadre Suspected of Intimidating Doctor, Zero Tolerance

Deputy Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal stated the party will impose strict sanctions on Norbertus Tubani, a member of the Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) Regional House of Representatives, who is suspected of involvement in the death of Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dr Icha (27). The PKB has issued a warning to any cadres who commit violations. “If PKB is mentioned in the TTU case, whoever it is, not just in TTU, if they commit a legal violation, especially if they cannot maintain their code of ethics as a council member, we will give strict sanctions,” Cucun said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/7/2026). Cucun emphasised there would be no tolerance for PKB cadres who commit violations. The party’s internal body will investigate the case. “There is no tolerance. If it is true, we have not conducted any investigation yet, we will immediately discuss it at the central executive board (DPP),” Cucun said. “We received the news from the media yesterday, read it in the media, and we will soon hold a meeting to conduct an investigation,” he added. PKB will instruct its party officials in East Nusa Tenggara to look into the case. Any form of violation will be followed up. “We will see later. We will ask, our structure is there. There is the provincial board (DPW) and the branch board (DPC),” he added. The incident began when two TTU Regional House of Representatives members, Norbertus Tubani from PKB and Therensius Lazakar from the Golkar Party, visited the emergency room of Leona Hospital regarding the treatment of a child patient bitten by a green snake, who was Therensius’s nephew. The patient was a referral from Kefamenanu Regional General Hospital. According to statements from several witnesses at the scene, the two council members allegedly arrived smelling of alcohol and spoke in a high tone to Dr Icha, who was performing her medical duties at the time. The incident allegedly left Dr Icha with deep psychological trauma. She subsequently underwent intensive care before being declared dead on Friday, 26 June 2026. Dr Icha was found dead at her parents’ home in the Baumata housing complex, Kupang Regency, NTT, on Friday (26/6/2026) at around 18:00 Central Indonesian Time, after receiving medical treatment for psychological stress following the alleged intimidation by the TTU council members while she was handling the child snakebite patient at Leona Hospital on Saturday (13/6). The family’s uncle and spokesperson, Fabianus Banase, stated they will report three TTU Regional House of Representatives members to the police. The report concerns the alleged intimidation that led to Dr Icha’s suicide. “We will definitely report it to the NTT Regional Police, but after the funeral tomorrow, because the deceased will be buried at the Liliba public cemetery,” Fabianus said, as quoted by detikBali on Monday (29/6).
