PKB: Vesak Day a Reminder to Internalize Humanitarian Values Advocated by Gus Dur
Don’t ask what your religion is, but ask what you have done for the sake of humanity.
Tangerang (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of PKB, Abdul Halim Iskandar, said that the commemoration of Vesak Day serves as a reminder for everyone to continue internalizing the humanitarian values championed by Gus Dur. “Don’t ask what your religion is, but ask what you have done for the sake of humanity. This message from Gus Dur continues to be our guiding principle and we implement it in our daily lives as a form of our responsibility as fellow human beings,” said Abdul Halim at the PKB National Vesak Reflection event at the Boen Tek Bio Temple in Tangerang City, Sunday.
He explained that Vesak is a grand event commemorating three sacred moments in the life of the Buddha. These three significant events bring moral light to humanity to tread the path of wisdom, compassion, and liberation from suffering.
Then, compassion seems to be fading away. Meanwhile, every day we witness the suffering experienced by humans around the world.
Especially now, the global situation is facing a difficult period, with various conflicts and wars causing casualties and suffering.
“Therefore, we all pray that the Indonesian nation will always be given the ability to cultivate compassion, be blessed with wisdom, and be spared from various disputes and sufferings caused by human error,” he said.
In this momentum, PKB invites all people to give their best for the nation by developing compassion for others.
“Hopefully, Vesak can bring about and spread peace not only in Indonesia but also throughout the world. Because currently, the world is turbulent with many wars,” he said.
