PKB Urges PDIP to Take a Firm Stance on Its Political Position
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, Jazilul Fawaid, has expressed hope that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will take a firm stance regarding its political position, whether choosing to join the governing coalition or to become the opposition. He made this statement in connection with reports that a prominent PDIP cadre recently participated in a demonstration alongside students in Jakarta. In light of this, he believes PDIP should not maintain a ‘grey’ stance on its political position. ‘If they wish to be outside the government, please do. But do not be ambiguous. That is what I mean,’ said Jazilul at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, those currently in coalition with the government are working hard to realise the promises of President Prabowo Subianto. He noted that ensuring all programmes run according to target requires unity and solidarity. He also stated that political parties within the government’s ranks have always respected differing opinions and views. Therefore, he believes PDIP’s position should be made clear. ‘PDIP’s position is still not firm at the moment. What does it mean to be a balancing party? This needs to be clarified. Various recent events make it even more important to confirm that position,’ he said. He admitted he would have greater respect if the party bearing the white-snouted bull symbol declared a firm stance or position, so that the party’s official attitude does not contradict the reality on the ground. ‘We would certainly respect a firm stance more than saying A but doing B,’ he stated.
