PKB Urges PDIP to Clarify Political Stance, Avoid Ambiguity
The National Awakening Party (PKB) faction in the House of Representatives has urged the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) to take a firm and unambiguous stance on its position towards President Prabowo Subianto’s government. PKB faction chairman Jazilul Fawaid stated that an unclear position could create a confusing impression and disrupt the administration’s work.
“I hope they will just take a firm stance. If they are in the opposition, then be the opposition. Do not be grey. Because we are all working hard to realise what the President promised. All the programmes have been arranged,” Jazilul said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (18/6/2026). He was responding to journalists’ questions regarding the alleged participation of Andi Widjajanto in a recent demonstration.
He explained that parties supporting the government are currently striving to oversee President Prabowo’s various programmes to ensure they run according to target. Therefore, he argued, solidity and clarity of stance from PDIP are necessary. “So, we hope their position is clear, do not be grey. We are moving to ensure all programmes run according to target. And we know that we all need unity and solidity to run all the President’s programmes; without that, it cannot work. But also, do not take an ambiguous stance,” he said.
Jazilul stressed that his party respects all differing political views. However, he requested a clear stance so as not to disrupt the running of the government. “Yes, do not be ambiguous in your stance. So far, we in the government coalition have respected all opinions from others. But if there is an impression of disruption, that is not good for running the programmes. So, the position should just be gentlemanly,” he stated.
Although PDIP has repeatedly declared itself a balancing force, Jazilul considers this still insufficiently clear. He again asked PDIP to clarify its status. “Not yet, it is not clear yet. Because so far there has been that impression, here and there, the stance is not firm. What does ‘balancing’ mean? I do not understand,” he said. “So, regarding the recent events, I think it is better to just confirm their position, so we can move forward properly,” he added.
Previously, PDIP Central Executive Board Chairman Said Abdullah asserted that the party was not involved in mobilising masses. He was responding to accusations from a student alliance called BEM Bersatu regarding the alleged closeness of one of the protest organisers, Tiyo Ardianto, to PDIP figures. “It is confirmed that PDIP, in accordance with the Chairperson’s instructions, had absolutely no involvement in the various demonstrations, whether at the end of August or the recent student protests. Neither as cadres nor as members,” Said stated at the parliament complex on Wednesday (17/6). Said emphasised that the alleged actions were not PDIP’s methods. He added that even if there were claims about the figure of Andi Widjajanto being among the crowd, it should not be interpreted as PDIP’s involvement.
