National Awakening Party (PKB) Vice Chairman Jazilul Fawaid has requested clarity on the political position of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), which remains outside President Prabowo Subianto’s governing coalition. According to Jazilul, the balancing role that PDIP has claimed to adopt still appears ambiguous. This comes after rumours circulated regarding the involvement of PDIP politician Andi Widjajanto in a student demonstration at the Bundaran HI in Jakarta on Friday, 12 June 2026, sparking allegations that the party was behind the protest. “I hope [PDIP] takes a firm stance. If they are in the opposition, then be the opposition. Don’t be grey,” Jazilul stated at the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta on Thursday, 18 June 2026. The member of House Commission III argued that PDIP’s unclear stance has negative consequences for government programmes. He noted that ensuring the success of President Prabowo’s agenda requires unity, and the coalition parties are currently working to fulfil the head of state’s promises. Meanwhile, PDIP’s attitude is perceived as potentially obstructing efforts to realise the programmes of the Red and White Cabinet. He therefore urged PDIP to assert its position in a chivalrous manner. “So far, we in the government ranks have respected all opinions from others. But if there is an impression of disruption, that is not good for running the programmes. So, the position should be gentle,” he said. The previous day, PDIP Central Leadership Board Chairman Said Abdullah denied allegations of the party’s involvement in the student movement. The Chair of the House Budget Committee stated that Andi Widjajanto’s activities should not be interpreted as representing PDIP’s political stance. Responding to Said’s statement, Jazilul said that PKB does not interfere in PDIP’s internal affairs. Cooperation with non-coalition parties continues, but he stressed that PDIP should clarify its political stance. “However, we value a firm stance more. Rather than saying A but doing B.”
