PKB to draft state assets bill

JAKARTA: The National Awakening Party (PKB) faction at the House of Representatives plans to draft a bill on the management of state assets in an attempt to protect assets scattered in numerous accounts or places.

PKB legislators Taufiqurrahman Saleh and Rodjil Ghufron said on Monday that the move was in response to demands by people in East Java recently.

"We need a law to regulate state assets, for example, the banpres (presidential aid funds) lent to some businesspeople that reach trillions of rupiah," Ghufron said here on Monday.

According to Ghufron, grassroots people had questioned whether state assets lent to businesspeople would be returned to the state.

Ghufron added that members of his faction would submit the proposal at the next House session due to start on May 13. - JP
