The Secretary General of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Hasanuddin Wahid (Cak Udin), responded to a video by the Chairman of the Shura Council of the Ummah Party, Amien Rais, regarding President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Cak Udin reminded all parties to be careful in making statements to the public.

“If we measure it by propriety, yes. Being a nation and state is a matter of propriety. Whoever it is, whether a national figure or politician, they must be careful in making statements to the public,” said Cak Udin at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (4/5/2026).

Cak Udin said that etiquette must be prioritised in every utterance in the digital realm. He suggested that national figures pay attention to uncertain geopolitical issues.

“If there’s no evidence, why say such things? It’s better for all national figures to talk about how we can help the government and this country survive the global crisis because of the Iran war, the unfinished Ukraine situation, skyrocketing world oil prices, and so on,” said Cak Udin.

“It’s better to unite the energy of national figures to help this country get out of the global crisis. That’s better than dealing with personal matters, person by person,” he added.

The member of Commission XI of the House of Representatives stated that speaking without data is concerning for democracy. He said statements that cause a stir only harm the Indonesian nation.

“Mr Amien has been a politician for a long time. He knows when he should apologise and so on. But for us, political etiquette is important. For us, speaking without data is very concerning for democracy,” said Cak Udin.

“For us, creating a stir, in my opinion, is not interesting for the nation’s needs today, which must solve many problems due to global geopolitics,” he continued.

Cak Udin hopes that the issue raised by Amien Rais does not continue to circulate. Cak Udin considers Amien Rais’s discussion unimportant for the nation.

“If we keep talking about it, Amien Rais will become famous again. In my opinion, let’s talk about something else that’s more important for the nation. Is Amien Rais’s discussion important for the nation? I don’t think so,” he said.

Recently, the public has been stirred by a video uploaded by Amien Rais on his YouTube channel regarding Prabowo and Teddy Indra Wijaya. The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, called the video uploaded by Amien Rais character assassination and slander.

Amien Rais then responded to the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, who described his statement as slander. Amien Rais said that freedom of opinion is regulated by law.

“Well, so I’m like this. First, I’m certainly convinced that democracy runs well if the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by our constitution is not restricted or suppressed,” said Amien when met after the National Congress of the Ummah Party in Sleman, as reported by detikJogja, on Sunday (3/5).

According to him, Indonesia is a democratic country, so every individual is free to express opinions. Even if, said Amien Rais, it contradicts the authorities and other people’s groups.

“Now, what is a democratic country, people expressing opinions is allowed. Contradicting the official authorities, contradicting other people’s groups and so on. But what, the point of conflict, the point of difference, is that it concerns the fate of the nation,” he said.
