Deputy Chair of PKB in DPR RI’s Commission II, Muhammad Khozin, has spotlighted the decision to implement work from home (WFH) for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. Khozin stated that the choice of this day is actually not ideal as it has the potential to become a long weekend.

“The government has decided on a WFH policy to be carried out every Friday. Although in our view, the choice of this day is not ideal because there are concerns it will turn into a long weekend,” said Khozin to reporters on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Nevertheless, Khozin assessed that the government has special considerations regarding the regulation. He hopes that the WFH every Friday will undergo periodic evaluations.

“But the government has discretionary authority in determining WFH as a manifestation of government administration,” stated Khozin.

“However, we request that the implementation of WFH every Friday be evaluated periodically and supervised consistently by ministries and agencies as well as local governments,” he added.

He wants the WFH implementation on Fridays to meet the target of reducing fuel consumption. In addition, he continued, ASN productivity is expected to remain maintained.

“Beyond the WFH implementation on Fridays, we encourage the central and local governments to use this momentum to seriously design better public transportation in the regions. In addition, the WFH implementation also becomes a momentum for air pollution control,” he said.

He also urged the government to intensify public transportation facilities for the community. Khozin assessed that there must be cross-sectoral coordination to provide comfortable transportation for the public.

“Therefore, in the implementation of WFH, this is not just a matter of bureaucracy alone, but related to public transportation and the momentum for pollution control in the regions. Coordination across ministries and agencies must be carried out. Once again, this momentum must be utilised for the common good,” he explained.

It is known that the government has set a work from home policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. This work scheme is implemented as a response to the impact of the Middle East conflict.
