PKB Politician Demands Severe Sanctions for DKPP Member Who Joined KPU Helicopter Ride

Member of the House of Representatives Commission II, Indrajaya, has urged severe sanctions against those reported in the case of the General Election Commission (KPU) commissioners’ use of a helicopter to attend the inauguration of the Polling Station Working Committee (KPPS) in Cidaun District, Cianjur Regency, West Java, ahead of the 2024 General Election. The case is currently the subject of an examination in a hearing of the Election Organiser Ethics Council (DKPP) through case number 10-PKE-DKPP/VI/2026, which was last held on 29 June 2026. Indrajaya particularly highlighted that during the hearing, DKPP member Tio Aliansyah was revealed to have been part of the entourage. “If the examination proves an ethical violation, the DKPP member involved should be subject to a heavier sanction than the other organisers,” Indrajaya said in a written statement on Thursday (2/7). The PKB politician regretted the KPU’s use of a helicopter for a working visit when the location was accessible by road. He argued that the issue should not be measured solely from the administrative aspect or the legality of budget use. Indrajaya assessed that there is a dimension of propriety and integrity that must be a primary concern for every state organiser. He stressed that leaders of an ethics body should be role models, not merely interpreters of rules. He considered the use of a helicopter to a location still reachable by road to present a serious issue of decency. “What is most regrettable is the testimony in the trial that one of the helicopter passengers was a member of the DKPP RI. This creates a serious irony because the DKPP is the institution tasked with enforcing the code of ethics for election organisers,” he said. He hopes the case will become a momentum for evaluating the governance of official travel within the KPU, Bawaslu, and DKPP to align with the principles of efficiency, accountability, and public interest. “The integrity of election organisers is built not only through rulings but also through exemplary conduct in every action,” Indra said.
