PKB: Parliamentary Threshold Ideally 5 to 7 Percent
The National Awakening Party (PKB) has spoken out regarding the level of the parliamentary threshold it considers ideal. According to the Chair of the PKB Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Jazilul Fawaid, a parliamentary threshold of 5 to 7 percent is still ideal for implementation. “For PKB, 5 to 7 percent is acceptable,” said Jazilul, as quoted on Saturday, 20 June 2026. He stated that his party has no issue if the parliamentary threshold for the next General Election is raised to 7 percent. However, he believes that discussions regarding the size of the parliamentary threshold must be conducted openly, taking into account various inputs from all parties. “But we still have to listen to other aspirations. However, for PKB, a threshold of up to 7 percent, 5 to 7 percent, is still okay,” Jazilul remarked. Previously, the parliamentary threshold became one of the issues pushed for discussion in the revision of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. Election activists from Kawal Pemilu dan Demokrasi Indonesia filed a judicial review petition with the Constitutional Court regarding Article 414 Paragraph (1) of the Election Law. They argue that the parliamentary threshold should not exceed 2.5 percent. According to the petitioners, a parliamentary threshold of 4 percent causes many votes to be wasted in elections. On the other hand, a number of political parties in the DPR believe the parliamentary threshold should not be too low or below 4 percent. Several parties have proposed that the parliamentary threshold be raised.
