A member of House of Representatives Commission III from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction, Abdullah, believes the Law on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Revised Police Law) strengthens the professionalism of the National Police in carrying out its duties. According to him, the ratification of this Police Law is also in line with the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). “The public’s expectation of the National Police today is not merely firm law enforcement, but also fair and humane service,” Abdullah told reporters on Wednesday (10/6/2026). The PKB legislator assessed that with the ratification of the law, the National Police is expected to be closer to and trusted by the public. He stated that regulatory changes must be followed by a change in perspective. “I am optimistic that the new Police Law will further strengthen the transformation of the National Police into a modern institution that is close to the people and trusted by the public,” said Abdullah. “This new Police Law must be supported by National Police personnel who possess a new paradigm, in line with the spirit of the new KUHP and KUHAP which uphold legal certainty, substantive justice, professionalism, and respect for citizens’ rights,” he continued. Through the current Police Law, according to him, the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has greater authority in monitoring the law enforcement process. He confirmed that transparency and accountability of the National Police institution are prioritised in the law. “The strengthening of Kompolnas is expected to support external oversight of the police institution,” said Abdullah. It is known that the House of Representatives ratified the revision of the Law on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Police Bill) on Tuesday (9/6/2025). This decision was taken during the 21st plenary meeting of the 5th session period for the 2025-2026 session year.
