The National Awakening Party (PKB) has presented awards to five Islamic scholars deemed dedicated to developing Islamic propagation while instilling the values of nationalism, Pancasila, and love for the homeland. “PKB presents this award to the kiai who propagate Islamic values in the same breath as nationalism, Pancasila, and love for the homeland, using the people’s language that is easily understood by the ummah,” said PKB Deputy Chairperson Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. Cucun stressed that the award was a form of respect from PKB for the kiai who consistently teach Islamic values combined with the spirit of nationalism. He added that the kiai have demonstrated that love for Indonesia is an inseparable part of practising Islamic teachings. “Throughout their lives, they have dedicated themselves to educating the ummah and the people that loving Indonesia is as important as loving their religion, and implementing Pancasila in daily life is as noble as carrying out the pillars of Islam,” he said. The awards were presented by Acting Chair of the PKB Syura Council Manarul Hidayah and PKB Secretary-General M. Hasanuddin Wahid on Thursday evening. The five recipients are the caretaker of Maslakul Huda Islamic Boarding School Sahal Mahfudh, caretaker of Al Hikam Islamic Boarding School Hasyim Muzadi, former MPR RI member Imron Hamzah, caretaker of Al Musri Islamic Boarding School Ahmad Faqih, and artist Bukhori Masruri.
