PKB Dismisses PDIP's Deddy Sitorus: Coalition Is Fine, Compact and Solid
The National Awakening Party (PKB) has dismissed accusations from PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) executive Deddy Sitorus that the government coalition is facing internal problems. PKB’s central board chairman, Daniel Johan, insisted the coalition remains solid. “The coalition is compact and solid,” Daniel Johan said when contacted on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
Daniel Johan stated the coalition is currently working hard together on government programmes. He urged all parties to focus on the people’s interests, from creating jobs to strengthening the people’s economy. “The coalition is fine, compact and working hard. It is right that we focus so that programmes run well, in line with the people’s hopes, truly meet the people’s needs, are able to open up employment opportunities, and maintain people’s purchasing power,” he said. “As well as strengthening the agriculture, fisheries and MSME sectors, particularly the real sector and the lower middle class, which must be truly supported and bolstered by policies so they can face the various current economic challenges,” he added.
PDIP central board chairman Deddy Sitorus had previously responded to Golkar and Demokrat questioning PDIP’s position as a balancing force. Deddy suspected there was an uncomfortable situation within the coalition, which is why PDIP’s position has been questioned lately. “Their attitude is indeed surprising. Do they really want PDIP to also have a minister in the cabinet so they can feel at ease because they lack confidence or something?” Deddy told reporters on Sunday (21/6).
Deddy assessed there is discomfort among the government coalition parties. He mentioned indications that these parties want to pit PDIP against the people or the president. “Or do they also want PDIP to be in an unpleasant situation with them? I am starting to think there might be a problem or discomfort within the coalition parties internally at the moment,” Deddy said. “If they are uncomfortable, just leave the government, don’t create strange issues and drag PDIP into it. Is it really the intention of these parties to pit PDIP against the people and/or against the government or the president?” he added.
The member of House Commission II asked other parties to simply focus on assisting President Prabowo’s ongoing administration. He said high concentration is needed to resolve the people’s issues. “I suggest those parties focus on helping their ministers in the cabinet and truly carry out their functions in the DPR. Matters concerning electricity, fuel, labour, social assistance, MSMEs, cooperatives, plantations, infrastructure, food, the economy, trade and many other critically important matters need the concentration of those who have placed their ministers in the cabinet,” he said.
Deddy touched on PDIP’s attitude during the leadership eras of the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), when the party did not question the positions of other political parties. He views the current attitude of political parties as if they are in a state of confusion. “Don’t look for a scapegoat for their confusion. If they wanted to find a sacrificial victim, they should have done it during last Eid. PDIP has never questioned whether any party wants to join the cabinet or not. As happened in the era of President SBY and Jokowi, PDIP never questioned the position of political parties. Why are so many parties now acting like confused and stressed people?” he said.
