PKB Deputy Chair Calls Jokowi's Request for PSI to Guard Prabowo-Gibran for Two Terms 'Premature'

National Awakening Party (PKB) Deputy Chairman Jazilul Fawaid has responded to a request by Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to guard the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms. Jazilul said the statement would only create obstacles among the public, as it is far too early. “Our focus is on making Mr Prabowo successful. If there are those thinking about two terms or other ideas beyond that, I actually see it as creating obstacles in public opinion,” Jazilul said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (22/6/2026).

Jazilul said the most important thing now is to ensure the success of the current administration. He described talk of support for two terms as jumping the gun. “Because the public wants today’s programmes to achieve their targets. Thinking about two terms, I think that’s premature,” he stated. Jazilul admitted he was puzzled by the sudden public airing of support for Prabowo-Gibran. The PKB faction chairman in the House of Representatives hopes the first term of Prabowo-Gibran’s leadership can be completed and run smoothly.

“Yes, in my opinion, there’s no rhyme or reason to suddenly talk about two terms? I don’t understand it, whose business is it to convey that,” Jazilul said. “But what I mean is that the government and the public today want this current term to be completed thoroughly, all the programmes, the campaign promises from yesterday, and the government can also deliver welfare and economic progress for the people. I think that is the priority,” he added. The directive from Jokowi was conveyed by PSI Chairman Bestari Barus. Bestari reportedly met Jokowi in Solo on Thursday morning (18/6). “To us, he conveyed that we are asked to guard Mr Prabowo-Gibran, even, yes, even for two terms. So there is no slander about there being two suns. How can there be two suns? That’s nonsense,” Bestari told reporters on Friday (18/6). Bestari said Jokowi reminded them to maintain harmony and support the ongoing Prabowo-Gibran administration. “He continued, earlier I was also entrusted with a message to maintain internal harmony. And also remind friends everywhere to support this pair, Mr Prabowo-Gibran, what more suns are there,” he said.
