PKB denies Gus Dur rumor
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: The National Awakening Party (PKB)
denies that former president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid has
embraced Christianity.
"It is not true. It is impossible that a man like Gus Dur has
been baptized," PKB Deputy Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar said here
on Tuesday.
He was commenting on a video compact disk (VCD), depicting a
man thought to be the former president undergoing baptism.
Copies of the VCD are being circulated in West Java and South
Kalimantan.
According to him, the footage was filmed in a church, after
Gus Dur had addressed Christian scholars.
He requested that those with copies of the VCD not disseminate
it to other provinces in order to avoid misinterpretation and the
a possible negative impact to Gus Dur and PKB.
Gus Dur is former chairman of Indonesian largest Muslim
organization Nadhlatul Ulama and a patron of PKB. --Antara
