Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Awakening Party (PKB) states that the division of cadre levels is better left to the internal mechanisms of political parties. “Regarding the levels and types of cadres, it is better left to each political party,” said the Secretary General of the PKB Central Executive Board, M. Hasanuddin Wahid, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, every political party already has its own membership progression and cadre development system tailored to the party’s vision and mission. Therefore, he said, what is more important at this time is to strengthen political parties to remain steadfast or consistent in conducting tiered cadre development. He made this statement following the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) proposal to change political party memberships in Indonesia into junior, intermediate, and senior members. The KPK conveyed this proposal in line with findings that political party cadre development is not running well, leading to entry fees for individuals to become party cadres and be endorsed in general elections. Therefore, in its study, the KPK proposes improvements to the political party cadre system to suppress such costs, while also preventing efforts to recoup political investments by newcomers who join the party and become cadres due to certain political expenses. To support effective cadre development, the KPK proposes dividing party members into junior, intermediate, and senior categories. In addition, the KPK proposes that candidates for the House of Representatives (DPR) must be senior party cadres, while candidates for Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) members must be intermediate cadres.
