PKB Awards Five Inspirational Kiai with Honours at 28th Anniversary
The National Awakening Party (PKB) conferred honorary awards on five prominent Islamic scholars at the peak of its 28th anniversary celebration held at the Jakarta Convention Centre, Senayan, on Thursday, 23 June 2026.
The five figures were recognised for their extraordinary service in aligning Islamic propagation with the strengthening of national values and Pancasila. The honorary awards were presented directly by the Acting Chairman of the PKB Syuro Council, KH. Manarul Hidayah, alongside the Secretary General of the PKB DPP, M Hasanuddin Wahid, in front of party cadres and invited guests.
Deputy Chairman of the PKB DPP, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, explained that the five ulama who received the awards are exemplary figures. They have dedicated their entire lives to advancing Islamic boarding school education, spreading religious teachings, and simultaneously reinforcing the foundations of national unity.
Cucun emphasised that this award is a form of PKB’s respect for the kiai who consistently maintain harmony between religious teachings and the spirit of love for the homeland. "We dedicate this PKB award to the kiai who preach by instilling Islamic values in one breath that is united with nationalism, Pancasila, and love for the homeland, using the language of the people that is easily understood by the ummah," said Cucun.
He further stressed that the track records of these five kiai are clear evidence that love for Indonesia cannot be separated from the implementation of Islamic teachings. "Throughout their lives, they dedicated themselves to educating the ummah and the people that loving Indonesia is as important as loving their religion. Implementing Pancasila in daily life is as noble as carrying out the pillars of Islam," he continued.
The five prominent ulama who received the honour at this historic moment are:
KH. Sahal Mahfudh (represented by his son, Gus Abdul Ghoffar Rozin). The former Rais Aam of PBNU (1999–2014) and caretaker of the Maslakul Huda Islamic Boarding School in Kajen, Pati, was a learned kiai known for his tireless efforts in preaching to various corners of the country. He consistently carried a message of peace that combined Islam, noble character, and nationalism.
