PK supporters hospitalized

BANDUNG, West Java: Ten supporters of the Justice Party (PK) were taken to hospital on Sunday after being hit by a hazardous substance thrown by supporters of other parties.

The PK supporters reported headaches and said they almost vomited, and were given first aid before being taken to Hasan Sadikin hospital.

The PK supporters were heading to the Padjadjaran Stadium when, on Jl. Surapati, they passed supporters of the Republican Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan).

Witnesses said a cigarette package filled with powder was thrown from the crowd. Other witnesses said it was a can which emitted gas. Medical staff identified the symptoms as similar to that from the effects of tear gas.

Police are investigating the case. (43)
