PK Betawi Strengthens Youth Agenda at Jakarta's 499th Anniversary

The Pemuda Kaum Betawi (PK Betawi) organisation used the momentum of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary to strengthen its internal consolidation through an event held on 21-22 June 2026 in Sentul, Bogor. The activity served as a platform for organisational evaluation and strategy formulation in response to evolving social, political, and technological challenges. PK Betawi Chairman Masykur Isnan emphasised that the consolidation aimed to enhance the organisation’s capacity to become an adaptive and relevant platform for youth. “PK Betawi must continue to grow into a modern, progressive organisation that provides tangible benefits. We are not just talking about organisational existence, but about how to present a movement capable of answering the needs of the younger generation and contributing to the development of Betawi, Jakarta, and Indonesia,” Masykur said. One key decision from the forum was the plan to hold the 2nd PK Betawi Congress, scheduled for July 2026 at Bale H. Sanusi Konte, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The congress is expected to strengthen the movement’s direction, consolidate cadres, and formulate long-term strategic agendas. In addition to congress preparations, PK Betawi set several priority programmes, including developing social entrepreneurship to promote youth economic independence, enhancing human resource competencies through technology and digitalisation, and strengthening substantive youth participation in political processes. Masykur stressed that youth involvement in politics must be driven by capacity building and ideas, not merely electoral participation. “Youth political participation must not stop at electoral numbers. Young people must engage with competence, ideas, and the ability to read changes in order to positively influence the democratic process,” he asserted. The consolidation also marked the joining of Brahma Aryana, currently the National Secretary General of the Independent Election Monitoring Committee (KIPP), as Secretary General of PK Betawi. His presence is expected to strengthen the organisation’s capacity, particularly in responding to political and democratic dynamics. Furthermore, PK Betawi affirmed its support for strengthening Betawi community consolidation through the Betawi Traditional Council (MKB), led by former Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, via a cultural-political approach, including developing academic studies related to Betawi identity and its future. In the field of digital transformation, PK Betawi is enhancing its communication lines by involving Ahmad Wafa, an information technology specialist, to develop digital communication networks and expand the movement’s reach in cyberspace. Masykur assessed that technological strengthening is crucial for building a youth organisation capable of addressing the challenges of the digital era while expanding youth participation. “We need new energy to make PK Betawi a big home for youth movements that can operate in social, political, and digital spaces. With the strength of cadres, ideas, and technology, PK Betawi will become a modern and progressive shared oasis of movement,” he said. Through this consolidation, PK Betawi reaffirmed its commitment to producing a generation of competitive and competent Betawi youth who can play strategic roles in the development of Jakarta and Indonesia, driven by the spirit of ‘Betawi Revolution’.
