PURWAKARTA — Perum Jasa Tirta II (PJT II) said development of a 100-megawatt (MW) floating solar power plant at Jatigede Reservoir in Sumedang, West Java, is due to begin soon. Meanwhile, an 80 MW project at Jatiluhur Reservoir in Purwakarta is still at the feasibility-study stage.

“The 100-megawatt Jatigede project is about to start. Jatiluhur is still at the FS, or feasibility-study, stage,” PJT II President Director Imam Santoso said after an event with the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN) in Purwakarta, West Java, on Saturday (24 October 2026).

Imam said the two projects are part of the company’s renewable energy development plans, which involve making use of reservoir areas.

However, he did not provide details of the construction schedules or commissioning targets for the two floating solar power plants.

According to Imam’s presentation, the planned Jatiluhur floating solar plant will have a capacity of 80 MW, while Jatigede’s will be 100 MW.

In addition to the two projects, PJT II has identified the potential to develop up to 2.8 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of floating solar capacity at reservoirs within its operating area.

“The 2.8 GWp is potential. Please do not misunderstand: it is potential,” Imam said.

He stressed that the figure represents overall potential that requires further planning, not generating capacity that has already been installed or is operating.

The company’s presentation also named five other locations where it plans to begin exploring floating solar development in 2027: Batutegi, Sindangheula, Karian, Cipanas and Kuningan.

This brings to seven the number of locations included in PJT II’s floating solar plans and potential assessments, each at a different stage of preparation.

In addition to solar power, the company has identified 760 MW of potential for hydropower plants with pumped-storage systems.

PJT II currently manages the Ir. H. Djuanda hydropower plant in the Jatiluhur Reservoir area, with installed capacity of 187.5 MW. The electricity it generates is supplied to PLN and several industries.

The floating solar developments are part of the company’s efforts to expand the use of water-resource infrastructure for renewable power generation.

The use of reservoir surfaces for floating solar is governed by Minister of Public Works and Housing Regulation No. 7 of 2023, the second amendment to Minister of Public Works and Housing Regulation No. 27/PRT/M/2015 on dams.

Meanwhile, on 25 August 2026, the government launched a 100 GWp solar development programme as part of efforts to strengthen national energy independence and security.
