Pizza Hut Gets New Owner, but Operations in Indonesia Continue as Normal
Pizza Hut has entered a new chapter in its global business journey. The pizza restaurant brand is no longer owned by Yum! Brands following the completion of the sale of Pizza Hut’s global business in September 2026.
Yum! Brands completed the sale of Pizza Hut outside Mainland China to the investment firm LongRange Capital on 1 September 2026. The transaction value reached around US$1.5 billion, with potential additional payments of up to US$75 million based on performance through 2030.
Previously, the Pizza Hut business in Mainland China was also divested to Yum China Holdings. Combined, the total value of the Pizza Hut divestment reaches around US$2.7 billion. The move also marks the end of Pizza Hut’s time as part of the Yum! Brands portfolio.
What Happens to Pizza Hut Indonesia?
Despite the major change in global ownership, customers of Pizza Hut in Indonesia have no cause for concern. Pizza Hut Indonesia’s operations continue and are managed by PT Sarimelati Kencana Tbk (PZZA).
The change in global ownership does not alter the management structure of the business in Indonesia. Sarimelati Kencana continues to run the operations and services of Pizza Hut Indonesia as before.
For Pizza Hut Indonesia, the change may actually present an opportunity to enter the next phase of business development.
President Director and CEO of PT Sarimelati Kencana Tbk, Boy Lukito, said the new ownership and leadership at global level open opportunities for Pizza Hut to strengthen various aspects of the business, from innovation and customer experience to digital transformation and relationships with its franchisee network.
Pizza Hut has been present and growing alongside Indonesian consumers for more than four decades. Over this time, the brand has not only built a restaurant network but has also created employment and forged partnerships with a range of local businesses.
Focus on Innovation and Customer Experience
In the new ownership era, Pizza Hut globally has also begun operating a model that places greater emphasis on international business development, innovation, restaurant development and support for franchisees.
This direction presents a distinct opportunity for Pizza Hut Indonesia to become more adaptive to the characteristics and changing behaviour of local consumers.
The increasingly dynamic fast-food restaurant industry makes innovation a critical factor in keeping a brand relevant. This goes beyond menu development to include customer experience, digital services, marketing strategies and an approach that is closer to consumer needs.
Sarimelati Kencana affirmed that it will continue to strengthen product and service quality while introducing innovations suited to the needs of the Indonesian market.
The company currently manages more than 575 Pizza Hut outlets in Indonesia. This scale shows that Indonesia remains an important market in the long journey of the Pizza Hut brand.
With the new global ownership structure, the next challenge is how Pizza Hut can preserve the strength of a brand built over decades while creating new experiences that remain increasingly relevant to consumers.
For the Indonesian market, one thing is certain: the change of global owner does not stop restaurant activity. Pizza Hut Indonesia continues to operate under PT Sarimelati Kencana Tbk and carries on its strategy to grow in the domestic market.
