Piyungan Intersection Reimplements Stop-and-Go System for Concrete Road Works

Bantul Police announced that traffic flow at the Piyungan three-way junction has returned to a stop-and-go system starting this afternoon. The measure accompanies the resumption of roadworks involving the installation of rigid concrete. “Yes, that’s correct. Since this afternoon, the Piyungan intersection has re-implemented the stop-and-go system,” said Bantul Police Head of Public Relations, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, when contacted on Monday (20/7/2026). The system was enforced from 1.15 p.m. WIB and is scheduled to remain in place until the end of July 2026. “The stop-and-go is due to the continuation of rigid concrete installation around the Piyungan intersection,” she stated. The Jogja-Wonosari road, specifically at the Piyungan intersection, has been under repair since 8 June. The road was partially closed with a stop-and-go system planned until 31 July. Bantul Police had temporarily normalised traffic flow during the holiday period, but the road has now been closed again with a contraflow traffic diversion re-implemented. Previously, Patuk Police Sector Head of Public Relations, Aiptu Purwanto, urged the public to seek alternative routes during the partial road closure, as the main Jogja-Wonosari route is expected to be congested. “With the repairs at the Piyungan intersection, traffic flow in Patuk is automatically affected because the Jogja-Wonosari road is the main route,” he said. “If it becomes crowded up to the Patuk area, we will likely implement traffic engineering.” Motorists are advised to head north from the Patuk PJR post intersection, then turn left at Kopilimo Cafe & Homestay or enter via Petir. “Alternatively, from the PJR post, you can go south via Cinomati,” he added. Purwanto also assured motorists not to worry about finding alternative routes, as Patuk Police personnel will be stationed at several points to provide directions if traffic engineering is enforced.
