Pitbull That Bit Primary School Child in Bandung Placed in Quarantine

Police have secured a pitbull that attacked a third-grade primary school pupil at the Grand Cendana Residence complex in Arjasari District, Bandung Regency, West Java. The dog has been placed in quarantine.

Pameungpeuk Police Chief Commissioner Asep Dedi said the animal was secured shortly after the incident on Sunday (23/8). “We have agreed with the local neighbourhood association that the animal is quarantined and is no longer in the residential area or at the owner’s home,” he said when confirmed on Monday (24/8).

Asep said the dog’s owner, identified by the initial F (40), was cooperative and even accompanied the victim and their family at the hospital.

The victim is being treated in hospital for lacerations to the head and ear caused by the dog bite. The child, who has just undergone surgery at Welas Asih Hospital, is gradually improving. “The victim’s wounds are on the head and ear. Surgery on the ear was carried out last night, and this morning the victim was moved to the recovery room,” he said.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has not yet filed an official report with the police to seek accountability from the dog’s owner. “So far the victim’s family has not come to the police station to file an official report or a statement of non-prosecution,” he added.

Asep said there are legal provisions relating to attacks by pets that injure others. “The owner can face a prison sentence of up to two years and eight months. This serves as a lesson for all members of the public who keep dogs to look after their animals properly,” Asep said.

Previously, a third-grade primary school pupil was bitten by a pet pitbull at the Grand Cendana complex in Arjasari District, Bandung Regency. The incident occurred on Sunday (23/8) afternoon. The victim suffered injuries to the head and ear and had to be rushed to hospital for treatment.

The incident was noticed by several residents when they heard the victim screaming and crying. When residents approached, the victim was being bitten by the pitbull.
