Pitbull Attacks Young Girl in Bandung, Owner Could Face Criminal Charges

A pitbull attacked a nine-year-old girl at the Grand Cendana Residence complex in Wargaluyu Village, Arjasari District, Bandung Regency, West Java. The dog has been quarantined or evacuated.

Pameungpeuk Police Chief Commissioner Asep Dedi said police are currently investigating the dog attack case. According to him, the dog has been moved and is no longer in the residential area.

“The step taken yesterday was that we took action. Initially we took action to quarantine the dog immediately. We also agreed with the neighbourhood association officials in the housing complex that this dog must be quarantined and no longer remain with its owner,” Asep said when met at Pameungpeuk Police Station.

He explained that the incident began when the dog belonging to a resident with the initials F was being sunned and tied up in a neighbouring village on Sunday (23/8/2026). The dog’s leash suddenly came loose and the animal entered the housing complex.

“At the time the child was playing on the housing road, a dog suddenly came from the direction of the village and immediately bit the victim,” he said.

Asep said the victim was immediately taken to Welas Asih Regional General Hospital for treatment. Based on examination results, the victim suffered serious injuries to the head and ear.

“Last night surgery was also carried out. Ear surgery, and this morning she has entered the recovery room,” he explained.

According to him, the dog owner with the initials F has been cooperative in handling the case. The dog owner has also continued to provide assistance to the victim who is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“Yesterday we were with the dog owner, and he happened to be cooperative and came to the police station. When we were still in the housing complex gathering information, the dog owner had already gone to the hospital to help the victim there,” he said.

Regarding the alleged negligence and legal sanctions, Asep reminded owners of high-risk pets to pay attention to public safety. Officers have also been working to provide warnings and disseminate information about animal ownership regulations.

“If a pet injures another person causing serious injury, the owner can be prosecuted with a maximum sentence of 2 years and 8 months. This is a lesson for everyone so that all members of the public who keep dogs can look after their pets properly and not cause casualties,” he said.
