Pirated VCDs destroyed in Glodok
JAKARTA: The West Jakarta Police burned some 250,000 pirated
and pornographic VCDs on a plot of land near the Glodok shopping
center on Tuesday.
The Glodok area has been famously known for selling pirated
VCDs.
"From the 250,000 VCDs destroyed, over 117,000 of them were
pirated," said the West Jakarta Police chief, Sr. Comr. Iwan
Ismed.
The VCDs were seized during a month-long raid conducted by the
West Jakarta precinct and the Taman Sari subprecinct officers.
Over the past 30 days, about 1.6 million pirated and pornographic
VCDs were confiscated from two pirated VCD makers in Tangerang
and Jakarta.
The United States government has recently put Indonesia on its
watch list of violators of intellectual property rights. --
