Pintu Air stickup zone

Pintu Air stickup zone

From Bisnis Indonesia

When my wife and I were being driven home after a hard day's
work, we were jolted out of lethargy. When we slowly passed Pintu
Air on Pasar Baru during a traffic jam, we witnessed a saddening
incident.

Readers who pass the area around 5 p.m. know that this is the
time when traffic is at its worst. Office personnel are waiting
for public transportation, newspaper vendors mill around, food
and drink vendors grab this opportunity to make a sale, and there
are also schoolchildren going to and fro.

When we got stuck in this quagmire, we saw a young office
worker being harassed by two men clad in white shirts and gray
trousers, both wearing caps. Their clothing resembled senior high
school uniforms.

We thought it was just an average scene at first, when people
get jostled around in crowded places, but what followed was even
more disconcerting.

The young victim was forced to produce his wallet, which he
handed over to one of the fellows in uniform while the other held
a pen knife against him. After losing his belongings, the young
man fled the scene. Fear and confusion were clearly reflected on
his face.
