An object believed to be a pineapple grenade was discovered by residents during a community work event at the cemetery in Padukuhan Sangonan, Sidorejo Village, Godean District, Sleman Regency. The grenade was subsequently destroyed by the Yogyakarta Regional Police bomb squad.

Sleman Police Public Relations Head, First Inspector Argo Anggoro, explained that the discovery occurred at around 10.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. At that time, residents were working on the construction of a banket, or retaining wall foundation, around the cemetery.

“Residents were carrying out banket construction work around the cemetery. One resident with the initials BS (47), a male resident of Sangonan, Sidorejo, Godean, Sleman, spotted a suspicious object in the area,” Argo said when contacted by detikjogja on Sunday (6/9/2026).

“The object was identified as resembling a pineapple grenade in a rusted condition with the pin still attached,” he continued.

The discovery was then reported to the Godean Police.

“Godean Police personnel then arrived at the location and carried out initial security measures,” Argo said.

The Godean Police also coordinated with the Yogyakarta Regional Police bomb squad. The suspected grenade was then secured by the bomb squad and disposed of in the rice fields of Padukuhan Sangonan, Sidorejo, Godean.

“Disposal was carried out in the rice fields of Padukuhan Sangonan, Sidorejo, Godean. The entire series of activities proceeded safely, orderly, smoothly, and conducively,” Argo explained.

Argo urged the public not to touch, move, dismantle, or attempt to secure any object suspected of being a grenade, ammunition, explosive, or other suspicious item.

“Immediately move away from the location, secure the area so that it is not approached by the public, and promptly report it to the police or local authorities so that it can be handled by competent officers,” he concluded.
