Pindad Ready to Develop Transparent Presidential Car as Requested by Prabowo: Stay Tuned
The President Director of PT Pindad (Persero), Sigit Puji Santosa, has ensured that the company is ready to provide a design for a transparent presidential car to facilitate President Prabowo Subianto’s ability to greet the public. Sigit stated that the company has received a direct request from President Prabowo regarding the preparation of a vehicle made with special glass materials and is currently in the preparation phase.
“If that is the case, yes, we are continuing our preparations,” Sigit said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Monday. He emphasised that the request to create a transparent glass car came directly from President Prabably Subianto. However, Pindad has not yet disclosed the detailed specifications or the expected completion timeline. When asked about the target completion date, Sigit did not provide certainty, advising to wait for an official announcement from the government, adding, “Wait for the official date.”
The request for the presidential car design emerged during President Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the launch of ,1061 Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative outlets in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday, 16 May 2026. President Prabowo initiated his request by recounting how citizens become enthusiastic to shake hands during his working visits to various regions, including Nganjuk and Tuban. “But that is the risk; I say they wait for hours under the sun. I am thinking, I will ask Pindad—where is Professor Sigit? … Try to design a special car for the President using glass, where there are seats, but I appear to be standing,” the President said to Pindad.
President Prabowo has previously utilised the Maung Garuda presidential car, specifically designed for the President of Indonesia by the domestic defence industry, PT Pindad. The President’s reference to ‘Professor Sigit’ refers to Sigit Puji Santosa, the designer of the Maung Garuda, who currently serves as the President Director of PT Pindad and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Danantara. The Maung Garuda has been used by President Prabowo since his first day in office on 20 October 2024, and has also been deployed internationally, such as during the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, as the President’s official vehicle.
