Bandung (ANTARA) - PT Pindad, together with members of the Merah Putih Cabinet, has begun steps towards decentralising waste management to address the crisis at TPST Bantargebang in Bekasi, West Java, through strengthening downstream processing technologies down to the sub-district level, one of which is “smokeless” technology.

Based on information from Bandung on Sunday, the strategic plan was discussed in a Limited Coordination Meeting (Rakortas) attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto, the Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and the President Director of PT Pindad Sigit P Santosa, last weekend.

Mendiktisaintek Brian Yuliarto emphasised that the key to resolving the Bantargebang waste issue lies in integrated upstream-downstream handling through proper governance and land provision.

In agreement, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq targets the transformation of TPS3A into more advanced processing units so that waste problems can be resolved at the local level without relying on large landfills.

“The Bantargebang waste problem can be resolved provided that decentralisation is underway. With various waste processing technology options, hopefully this can be implemented down to the village scale,” said Hanif Faisol.

“The President’s directive to carry out waste decentralisation will later be attempted to be resolved at the sub-district and district levels. For the first pilot project in DKI Jakarta and Bandung, once completed, it will be implemented in other regions,” stated Sigit P Santosa.
