Pindad gets 40 tank orders from TNI

BANDUNG: State-owned weapons producer PT Pindad has received an order from the Indonesian Military (TNI) to produce 40 tanks, 10 of which have been finished.

Pindad executive director Budi Santoso said that his company would complete the production of the remaining tanks between January and February next year.

According to him, his company can make a tank in six weeks, at the cost of Rp 500 million (US$58,823). The price is lower than foreign tanks that are sold for between Rp 2 billion and Rp 3 billion each, he added.

"We are able to produce tanks at low prices with high local content," Budi said.

The tank can accommodate up to 12 people, and move at a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour, and is equipped with an automatic grenade launcher. --Antara
