An Air India flight travelling from Frankfurt, Germany, to New Delhi, India, was diverted to Jaipur and made an emergency landing on Wednesday (14 October) local time after its pilot transmitted a hijacking alert.

According to sources at India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), as quoted by the Hindustan Times on Wednesday (14 October 2026), the Boeing 787-9 landed safely at Jaipur International Airport on Wednesday morning.

The aircraft, operating as flight AI 2030, was then moved to a designated isolation area for security checks.

DGCA sources said the aircraft transmitted transponder code 7500, the internationally recognised code for a hijacking or other unlawful interference.

The pilot sent the emergency code, which was received by India’s air traffic control operator. The flight, bound for New Delhi, was then diverted to Jaipur.

After landing, the aircraft was directed to the isolation area and security personnel carried out checks. Initial reports said the pilot and passengers were disembarked in stages under close security supervision.

Passengers and their baggage were screened as part of security procedures. Field teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), airport security agencies and local police also took part in the operation.

After the checks, the aircraft was declared safe by Indian authorities, according to DGCA sources cited by the Hindustan Times. Passengers were expected to reboard the same aircraft shortly.

India’s civil aviation authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, focusing in particular on what prompted the pilot to transmit the hijacking code.

The incident was accompanied by rumours of a bomb threat, but local airport officials denied them.

“It was a hijacking rumour, not a bomb threat. It is too early to comment officially on the matter. The investigation is under way,” the airport official told the Hindustan Times.
