A Flydubai commercial passenger aircraft flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv was diverted and landed in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning. The pilots were reportedly involved in an altercation mid-flight.

The incident triggered the transmission of emergency codes and caused temporary concerns regarding a potential hijacking.

As reported by the Jerusalem Post, the aircraft, operating as flight FZ1073 and carrying over 100 Israeli passengers, initially transmitted squawk code 7700—indicating a general emergency—before switching to code 7500, which indicates unlawful interference. It subsequently reverted to the initial code.

“During the incident, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) deployed fighter jets as an anticipatory measure against a possible emergency and increased alert status,” Walla reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also reportedly held a security meeting with defence officials.

“The situation is under control, and all current efforts are being made to safely return the Israeli passengers to Israel,” stated the Prime Minister’s Office following the consultation.
