Pilgrims Need Rest, Ministry of Hajj Requests Reduction in Departure Ceremonies for Hajj Pilgrims
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has urged authorities in the regions to ensure that the ceremonial send-offs for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims are not overly numerous or prolonged. Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated that the abundance of such events could impact the physical condition of the pilgrims, who need time to rest. “Please do not have too many ceremonies in each respective region related to the send-off of the pilgrims, so that the pilgrims do not have to wait too long and do not become exhausted because too many ceremonies cause the pilgrims to tire easily,” said Dahnil on Wednesday (22/4/2026). The departure of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims is often accompanied by send-off ceremonies, both at the district/city level and at embarkation points. In fact, some are conducted repeatedly. On the other hand, he noted that many pilgrims are elderly, high-risk individuals, and those with disabilities who require rest time before the long journey to the Holy Land.
