The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (@kemenhaj.ri) uploaded a video showing officials inspecting pilgrims’ luggage, revealing attempts to smuggle Zamzam water. Pilgrims attempted to conceal the water by wrapping it in aluminium foil and taping it inside both checked and carry-on luggage.

The video shows that the Zamzam water is still visible on the X-ray machine due to its unique characteristics, which cannot be concealed. The process of unpacking the luggage takes a considerable amount of time, which can cause delays for pilgrims boarding the aircraft.

For information, there are regulations regarding bringing Zamzam water from the Holy Land. Zamzam water is not allowed to be brought in checked or carry-on luggage when returning to Indonesia.

Each pilgrim will receive an official distribution of Zamzam water upon arrival in Indonesia, so there is no need to bring it from Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims are asked to comply with the flight regulations to ensure a smooth baggage inspection process, flight safety, and the comfort of all pilgrims.

List of Prohibited Items During Flights

In addition to Zamzam water, airlines have also established a list of prohibitions for other risky items. The public is advised not to bring these dangerous items into the cabin or checked baggage.

Here is a list of prohibited items during flights:

  • Flammable or explosive materials, such as matches, fuel, firecrackers, fireworks, and others.

  • Firearms and sharp weapons, including ammunition, knives, scissors, sabers, and other sharp objects.

  • Various liquids, gels, aerosols, pastes, and creams exceeding 100ml are not allowed in the aircraft cabin.

  • Cash exceeding IDR 100,000,000 or SAR 25,000 is not strictly prohibited, but must be reported to customs officials in accordance with applicable regulations.
