PIKI and Health Ministry Declare Indonesian Health Sovereignty 2045

The Central Board of the Indonesian Christian Intelligence Association (DPP PIKI), together with the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) and various church bodies, held a National Seminar and Declaration of ‘Indonesian Health Sovereignty 2045’ at GBI Bethel Summarecon, The Journey, Bandung. The event served as a cross-sector collaboration forum to strengthen the commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and sovereign national health system towards Golden Indonesia 2045. The seminar was attended by government officials, academics, health workers, church leaders, Christian organisations, and various other stakeholders. The forum discussed future health challenges while formulating recommendations to strengthen the resilience of the national health system. During the event, DPP PIKI also submitted a White Paper on Indonesian Health Sovereignty 2045 as a recommendation for the government in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of health policies. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus emphasised that every citizen has the right to receive proper health services. ‘Every person has the right to access health services,’ said Akhmad Wiyagus. Hashim Djojohadikusumo of the DPP PIKI Honorary Council stated that health sovereignty is an inseparable part of national sovereignty. According to him, Indonesia must have an independent, innovative, and equitable health system. ‘A strong nation is one that is able to protect the health of its people through an independent, innovative, and equitable system. Collaboration between the government, society, academia, and religious organisations is a major asset to realise a healthy and competitive Indonesia by 2045,’ he said. DPP PIKI Chairman, who is also Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, said that health development is a long-term investment for the nation’s progress. He added that PIKI continues to encourage the contribution of Christian intellectuals in supporting national development, particularly in the health sector. ‘PIKI believes that health development is a primary investment for the nation’s future. Through this national seminar, we want to strengthen synergy between the government, churches, academics, and the community to generate ideas and concrete steps towards creating a health system that is stronger, more equitable, and pro-people,’ said Maruarar. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of DPP PIKI who is also Deputy Minister of Health, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus, assessed that health system transformation can only succeed through the involvement of all elements of society. ‘The Ministry of Health continues to transform the national health system so that services are of higher quality, easily accessible, and sustainable. The partnership with PIKI and church bodies is an example of strategic collaboration that can strengthen health education, promotive-preventive efforts, and the improvement of human resources quality in the health sector in Indonesia,’ he said. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi appreciated the holding of the national seminar. According to him, public health must be the main foundation of regional and national development. ‘I welcome the collaboration between PIKI, the Ministry of Health, and churches in building awareness that health is our shared responsibility. This spirit of mutual cooperation will strengthen Indonesia towards 2045. The state must be responsible for the material aspects of its citizens,’ said Dedi. The National Seminar on ‘Indonesian Health Sovereignty 2045’ produced a number of strategic recommendations expected to serve as input for the formulation of national health development policies. DPP PIKI, the Ministry of Health, and various church bodies also expressed their commitment to continue strengthening collaboration through the development of ideas, innovations, and real programmes to support the realisation of a resilient, equitable, and sovereign Indonesian health system towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
