PIK to raise roads in Kapok

JAKARTA: Developer of the luxury housing complex Pantai Indah Kapok, PT Mandala Permai, has agreed to fulfill Kapok residents' demand to raise 2.5 kilometers of road in their area by one meter.

The agreement was reached during the third meeting, on Sunday, between the development's management and Kapok residents, who had previously identified the housing complex as being the cause of flooding in their area and had asked for compensation from the developer.

Hamid, one of Kapok's public figures who attended the meeting, said that with the agreement, residents, for the time being, would abandon their threat to demolish the dikes built by the developer to prevent flooding at the housing complex.

"We managed to reach agreement today as the developer showed its good will. But we're still asking for the developer to fulfill other demands," he said, adding that the raising of the roads would start on Monday. --JP
