The collaboration between PII and the Ministry of Home Affairs is intended to enhance the role and involvement of engineers in regional governments’ planning, supervision, and sustainability of regional development.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) has scheduled an awards ceremony for regional governments with the highest Regional Engineering Index (IKD) scores on 29 August 2026.

PII Secretary General Teguh Haryono said the awards would be presented following the association’s collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs in measuring the IKD, which assesses engineering practices in regional development.

“The collaboration between PII and the Ministry of Home Affairs is intended to enhance the role and involvement of engineers in regional governments’ planning, supervision, and sustainability of regional development,” Teguh said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.

Meanwhile, IKD Measurement Executive Chairman Handoko said the measurement instruments used include assessing the implementation of quality standards, innovation capacity, and engineering practice policies in the implementation of development in the regions.

“There are five main components and two supporting components in measuring the IKD, as agreed between PII and the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Domestic Policy Strategy Agency,” he said.

He expressed hope that the measurement would encourage regional governments to utilise the engineering profession optimally, particularly to minimise the risk of building failures and improve competitiveness.

“Regional governments will be able to guarantee the quality and safety of infrastructure and technology so that in carrying out regional development, they can use budgets as efficiently as possible and pursue sustainable development,” he said.
