PII Meets Foreign Ministry Secretary General to Prepare Engineering Diplomacy Agenda
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Representatives of the Indonesian Institute of Engineers (PII) met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denny Abdi, to prepare several engineering diplomacy agendas to be undertaken in the near future. Deputy Chairman of PII for International Engineering Cooperation, Andre Mulpyana, explained that one of the topics discussed in the meeting on Wednesday was the plan for PII’s attendance at the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) Mid-Term Meeting in Yangon, Myanmar. “We want to request information regarding the security of Myanmar for visits related to the invitation from AFEO for PII to attend the AFEO Mid-Term Meeting in Yangon, Myanmar, on 28-30 June,” said Andre in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that this request for information is necessary because various pieces of information are circulating regarding the situation in Myanmar. Therefore, he said, the Foreign Ministry responded to PII’s request by directly contacting the Interim Chargé d’Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, Novan Ivanhoe Soleh, via video call. “The report from Mr Novan Soleh states that the situation in Myanmar, particularly in Yangon, is safe for visits. Foreign media often report situations that are not entirely accurate for Yangon,” he said. In addition, he stated that the meeting between PII and the Foreign Ministry discussed the agenda for the Conference of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO), which is planned to be held in Bandung, West Java, on 20-22 October 2026. On a separate occasion, PII General Chairman Ilham Akbar Habibie said that this year’s CAFEO will be a forum for exchanging knowledge, innovation, and strengthening engineering networks in ASEAN. “The CAFEO in Bandung will also showcase various national engineering industry displays to engineering figures from ASEAN member countries,” he said.
