Pigai Says Human Rights Ministry to Secure World Record for Largest Human Rights Education Programme
Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has stated that the Ministry of Human Rights is undergoing an assessment by Guinness World Records for organising a large-scale human rights education programme. “Hopefully it will be successful, another country could also excel. God willing, it can happen,” said Pigai during a meeting with Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the current world record holder for delivering human rights education to the most people is Uruguay, which has educated 3,000 individuals. However, he noted that his ministry has now recorded a higher number. He explained that the Ministry of Human Rights had previously held a human rights education event in North Sumatra with 6,000 participants. Consequently, he stated that his ministry would receive the world record award. “This is just for information, God willing. Previously, I mentioned that the Ministry of Human Rights would present the President of the UN Human Rights Council, and it happened nine days later,” said Pigai. He expressed his wish for an understanding of human rights to be instilled in every individual. Currently, he noted, not everyone necessarily understands the definition of human rights, as the term is often only associated with specific cases. Therefore, he invited all parties to intensify efforts to promote the understanding of human rights, as this fundamental sector is a gift from God. “I dedicate myself to building human rights in Indonesia,” he stated.
