Pigai Refuses to Comment on 'Pesta Babi' but Admits Watching the Film
BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai has admitted he has watched the documentary film “Pesta Babi.” However, Pigai declined to provide any further comment regarding the film.
He made the remarks when approached by reporters in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
Initially, Pigai was asked about his firm stance against a ban on the public from watching the film. “Mr Pigai is firm on not allowing people to be prevented from watching ‘Pesta Babi’. Mr Pigai himself, have you watched it, sir?” the journalist asked.
Pigai then replied briefly that he had watched the film. “I have watched it,” Pigai said.
“What is your reaction, sir? The documentary film ‘Pesta Babi’, sir,” the journalist asked.
“What do you think? What is your reaction?” Pigai answered.
The journalist admitted he had not watched the film.
Pigai again emphasised his position without commenting further on the substance of the film. “Look, look. The one who dares to express an opinion about ‘Pesta Babi’ is the Minister of Human Rights. Therefore, there is no need to respond,” Pigai said.
Pigai made these remarks in response to the widespread bans on screenings of the documentary film “Pesta Babi” in several regions and campus communities within the country.
